Career Day at Seminole County Elementary

Posted by romeethredge on May 3, 2013

Career Exploration Day was held here at Seminole County Elementary School and my co-worker, 4-H Agent Cindy Meadows and I had the priveledge of talking about Agriculture to the whole school, 2 classes at a time.

I believe that Agricultural Awareness is a very important deal for young and old.  They seemed to enjoy learning about the crops we grow here and how we have further processing of a lot of our crops at our local cotton gins and peanut shelling. We also have a lot of agricultural equipment designed and built and sold here. Agriculture provides a lot of jobs and careers here.  It was amazing how in almost every group when I would talk about agricultural business here kids would say “My Daddy works there”, or “My Grandaddy is a farmer.”

They enjoyed getting to interact with our 4-H Poultry Judging chickens and learning how to candle eggs(we only broke 2). But the star was “Bottle Baby”, the young calf from Meadows Creek Farm that was here for them to enjoy.
