Corn Popping Up

Posted by romeethredge on March 14, 2014

Corn is coming up and looking pretty good. It’s been kind of slow to emerge due to cool soils but is doing ok. This corn had been planted 12 days previous to these photos.

One problem is that we planted under very moist conditions so the surface got crusty and hard and growers were about to have to water it to soften the surface but a timely one third of an inch rain helped us out. We need to be watching for this however in the next couple of weeks, as the corn can try to unfurl under the surface and hurt our stand of seedlings.
