Question of the Week – We didn’t kill it

Posted by romeethredge on July 11, 2014

Last week I had a photo of something very common this year. Palmer amaranth that we didn’t kill prior too planting. We may have thought we killed it with tillage but with all the rains we were having and we were behind so a lot was done quickly and we just “set it out” so to speak. You can tell because we laid it over with tillage but many survived.

Our weed scientists often preach that we need to “start clean” and that’s right.

This week’s question is about forestry.

We have been at 4-H camp all this week and we just arrived back in town. We had some great classes with the kids and one was a forestry class as you can see below we went out and learned about trees and ecosystems. Our Camp Counselor Bailey taught a lot about trees and he said in the world there are around 50,000 different trees. In the US there are about 680. How about in Georgia for this week’s question. How many different trees do we have?
