Agricultural News for Farmers and Agribusiness in SW Georgia

We are having some problems with Canola emergence in some fields when it was planted ahead of heavy rains. The ground is really hard packed and we also had some cold temperatures as well.   The plants are unable to come up in some cases. The stem is swelling and some is breaking off or growing downward. Some of the canola will have to be replanted, although it’s getting late for that.

Another problem is blackbirds, going from plant to plant as it comes up and pulling them up and eating them. This is leaving holes in the row.
