Wheat Powdery Mildew 2015

Posted by romeethredge on March 5, 2015

We are seeing some powdery mildew in wheat, now.

Some varieties have more natural resistance than others. Its not a real big deal but we need to watch this problem. We normally don’t worry about it too much unless it gets to within 2 leaves of the flag leaf. Then action may be necessary including fungicide application.

Here’s a good table form the UGA Wheat Production guide that shows different varieties’ susceptibilities.  Check your varieties so you’ll know what to look for in them.

My fellow county agent, Eddie Beasley, in Berrien County, found mildew there on Feb. 27th, and has a video concerning his find there. Here’s a link to his blog.
