Hail on Corn

Posted by romeethredge on April 13, 2015

We’ve had some hail on corn recently and I never like to see it.  Fortunately,  if the corn is young then we usually don’t see lasting effects. This corn was at V3 and it should fully recover from this hail damage.  Usually the growing point is below ground level until V5 or so and it’s usually V7 growth stage that we start seeing real yield loss, unless there is real bad plant bruising, damage and stand loss.

Here’s Mark Davis in their field that got the damage worse on the south side. It rained 1.7 inches in a short amount of time along with the hail.
