Peanut Harvest Time in Australia

Posted by romeethredge on May 4, 2015

In Australia they started their peanut harvest season about a month ago.

Neil Halpin, agronomist in Australia, says the following:

“It has been a much better growing season than last year but rust is becoming a big issue for growers who extended their fungicide program past 14 days.

The harvest has just been interrupted with about 4 inches of rain. We would have 75% of our crop off. The yields are pretty good this season with most paddocks getting more than 6t/ha. However grades are down with low levels of Jumbo nuts this year.”

Here’s a couple of photos recently taken of this year’s Australian peanut harvest. This was before the recent rains that has them held off for a while but they plan to start back picking today. Notice the sugarcane in the background which is a common rotational crop.
