Peanut Caterpillars a Concern

Posted by romeethredge on July 10, 2015

I posted about Beet armyworms (BAW) earlier this week and then  later I found a field needing treating for them so here’s an update.

BAW in a few fields around have been at threshold levels for small peanut vines. These were young peanuts and we found 4 per foot in many areas throughout the field so the grower will treat them today. The vines are small and showing a good bit of feeding damage.

Other fields are showing some damage but most I’ve seen didn’t need treatment. There are lots of beneficial parasites and predators working hard for us, and vines are thick.
